ED Raids 31 Dhanbad Sites in Coal Money Laundering Probe, Freezes ₹160 Crore

ED raids 31 Dhanbad sites in a coal money laundering probe targeting traders including Anil Goyal and LB Singh. Authorities freeze ₹160 crore in mutual funds and seize cash, documents, and digital evidence.

 

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at 31 locations in Dhanbad as part of an investigation into a coal money laundering case linked to alleged smuggling, theft, and extortion activities in Jharkhand’s coal hub.

The raids targeted coal traders including Anil Goyal, LB Singh, and others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). During the operation, authorities froze nearly ₹160 crore in mutual funds held by LB Singh and seized ₹1.02 crore in unaccounted cash.

The agency also collected documents related to more than 200 properties along with digital devices during the searches. The seized material is now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The action is part of the ED’s probe into illegal coal-related networks in the region. The investigation focuses on alleged money laundering activities connected with smuggling, theft, and extortion in Dhanbad’s coal sector.

The latest searches build on previous probes into entrenched illegal mining networks, with the agency continuing to analyze the evidence gathered during the raids to determine further developments in the case.
